VIENNA
BUILT
UTOPIA
What made the era of “Red Vienna” so unique?
Where, if not in Vienna, can you find imperial splendour and palaces of the proletariat side by side? The past glory of the monarchy meets the glowing promise of a better life. Vienna's municipal buildings are unique and reflect the laborious start of a young republic that was extraordinary yet doomed to fail. Constructed utopia, which is still a microcosm, shows the state of our society.
Our Route
Everything started at the Matzleinsdofer belt. From here we explore the first municipal building in history and can admire the magnificent building, which is named after the legendary mayor. We continue to the 12th district, which is populated with impressive architectural achievements that tell us, among other things, about the fall of that era. Passing examples of the post-war period, we cross the Vienna River to visit the last surviving apartment.
