The Habsburg family chronicle is bursting with power and glory, but on closer inspection, the individual fates tell us a tragic story. It was not only murder and suicide that put the Habsburgs six feet under, but also greed for sugar or the mistakingly ordered “hunter schnitzel".

On this tour we not only get to know the victims like empress Sisi or Rudolf, but also the perpetrators and we’ll try to understand how the bloodthirsty attacks and tragic accidents could have happened. In 1889, a single pistol shot triggered a chain reaction that lead to the First World War.

There were often dangers from the outside, but the Habsburgs' own strategy of maintaining power would turn out to be a life-threatening trap.

Our Route
Our meeting point is under the watchful eye of the Empress Maria Theresia between the large court museums. From there we go straight to the Hofburg and further across Heldenplatz to the Volksgarten. We stop at Minoritenplatz to return to the Hofburg from there.
