There once was a time when Vienna existed in seclusion on the edge of the Western world right next to the Iron Curtain. While Vienna lay in a deep sleep, spies from both sides of the block played fast and loose.

Let’s dare and peek behind the curtain and unveil the stories of the Cold War that shaped our city. Why did the Americans bury ammunition and money all over Vienna and how did the tram reveal a bugging scandal?

We make it our mission to expose the schemes of the secret services for whom Vienna was more than a hub city.

Meeting point: In front of the Soviet War Memorial on Schwarzenbergplatz. Please check in 10 minutes ahead of time.

Information for Holders of the Vienna City Card: This tour is eligible for the Vienna City Card. Purchase your VCC-Ticket here and save 20 % of the regular tour price. Show your VCC at the meeting point.

Our Route
From Schwarzenbergplatz we follow the traces of the secret agents via Karlsplatz to the opera house. We look for monuments and hidden secrets along the Hofburg before we stop in front of Vienna's most popular café and finally end up in the government district.

Duration: Approx. 2 hours
